There is no denying how versatile our smartphones are, and the “Starbucks Mobile Payments” system is a fine example of that. It seems that there is no limit to what you can do with your cell phone while on the move. This system has been in place for a while now, but has now been extended to over 300 stores in New York.
The app, which is currently available for the Apple iPhone and RIM BlackBerry -no word on Nokia or Microsoft — allows you to do away with your Starbucks card and use the app to add points to their account.
There are those who would like to know why the Starbucks Card is no longer good enough? Bryce Westervelt from Gather reports that using an app will allow customers to check their online account with the coffee shop and view their balance and reward points.
Other stores also have something similar, Tesco in the UK allows customers to use their iPhone to add reward points to their account; this is done by scanning a barcode that is displayed on the phones screen.
Do you think that the day of the store reward card has had its day?
