Spotify Reaches 1m Paid Subscribers Milestone

Here is some noteworthy news for those of you who like the idea of subscription based music services. The success of Spotify seems to be gaining momentum as its paid subscribers reaches the 1 million milestone.

We recently brought you news that the music streaming service provider was in talks with major record labels and had already signed deals with EMI and Sony. Now two years after reaching the one million mark with its users it can be proud of the one million who now pay for streaming.

This news comes from an article at Slashgear who say this marks a ‘significant increase’ from this time last year where Spotify had 325,000 paid subscribers. They also say that the increase and the milestone reached will help them with ongoing negotiations that the service have with trying to sign two remaining major record labels so they can attempt a launch in the U.S.

It is thought that the remaining labels, Warner Music Group and Universal Music Spotify wish to sign are concerned with the amount of paying subscribers the service have. That may change if this kind of momentum continues.

Are you currently paying for Spotify? What do you think of the service? Share your thoughts below.
