Spotify For iPhone/iPod Touch iOS: Get It Working In the USA – How To Guide

For those of you dying to try out Spotify, but due to living in the United States can’t get access to the best desktop music player ever. Then this handly little workaround guide will tell you all you need to know to get Spotify working in the US on your home computer, and even on your Apple iPhone or iPod Touch.

Spotify is only currently available to those who reside in Finland, France, Norway, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom. So if you live in America, you will receive a “not available in your country yet” message.

Follow these steps below that explain how to get Spotify, and experience one of the webs best music programs.

Download Spotify Desktop Software – First, go to, select your platform (PC, Mac OS X), and then download the file to somewhere on your home computer. Preferably somewhere you will remember as we will come back to this later.

Register with iTunes UK – One of the primary reasons you will want this app on your iPhone/iPod Touch is that you can access any music, anywhere at anytime. Unfortunately, you cant just download the app from the App Store, as we said earlier, it is not available in your country.

To get around this, we are going to have to create a U.K. iTunes account without a credit card.

First, open iTunes and go to the iTunes Store. From here, sign out of your account by clicking on your account name and select “sign out.”

From here, if you scroll all the way down to the bottom of the iTunes store, you will see a “Change Country” option. It should be listed under “Manage” and be the bottom option.

One done, a list of flags will come up onscreen. Select United Kingdom, then use the search feature to search for “Spotify.” When this is found, select the “Download” button.

This will prompt you to a login screen where you can also select a “Create New Account” button. Click it.

Go through the same process as you did when you first created your iTunes account, but this time you must use a secondary email address. Basically something different than you used for your US iTunes account. You can get free email address via Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo, and a host of other online email services.

The next screen will ask for credit card information. Just choose the “None” option. The reason for this is that Apple let you do this only once because you are choosing to download a free application.

The next step will ask for a UK address. Now I know it is hard to make one up, so the best way to do this is to go to Google Maps, go to the UK and select a random address for instance “McDonalds,” which will bring up a list of addresses where McDonalds are located. Use this address to complete registration.

Confirm Email Address – Before you can download the app, you must confirm your account. To do this, simply log in to your alternate email address you used in the form, and confirm your account.

Download and Install the Spotify iOS App – Nearly there now. Once done, you can download any of the free apps available on the iTunes Store. Now we want to search for Spotify again, download it and sync it to our iPhone/iPod Touch.

Register with Spotify – Due to Spotify not being released in the US, you will have to go to a proxy website. We have provided you with one here (

When the page loads, type “” (without quotes) in to the bar under Enter URL and click Go. This may take a few minutes, so be patient.

When the page loads, it thinks we are based in the UK, therefore allowing us to make a Spotify account. Hooray!

Click “Get Spotify” at the top of the page or simply the “Try Spotify now” button. You will then have to choose the “Open – It’s free!” option,” then create your Spotify account by choosing a username, password and entering your address you “made up” earlier on.

If done correctly, you should see a “Account successfully created!” header.

Install Spotify – Once the account is created, go back to where you downloaded Spotify in the first place and install the software. You can then login using the details you just entered and start enjoying the magic of Spotify on your home computer.

Spotify for iPhone and iOS – Now there is no easy way to do this, and to even get access, you must be a premium member. Remember we can’t do this because we don’t live in the UK. But if you are prepared to pay a little bit of money, there are ways around this.

One of the easiest and effective ways is to go to eBay, and purchase “premium ultimate one month worldwide access.”

Go to eBay, search “Premium Spotify.” All the eBay seller does is makes the premium service available to you by logging in to your account and by using their details, they will activate the service and then tell you its all ready for you to enjoy.

Make sure you use a separate password than what you would usually use for all other important websites and alike. You can change it after.

Once you have access, you can log onto your iPhone/iPod Touch app and enjoy the wonder that is Spotify. Remember you can use your desktop software too.
