Spotify Android update prompts uninstall due to hack

It was just last month that Spotify issued an update to its Android app, but due to a possible hack, Spotify HQ has been forced to rush out a new update. This is not a simple update because you will be required to uninstall the current app once you have downloaded the new version, which means this is more of a brand new app rather than an update.

We cannot help but admire Spotify because the security breach was only limited to a very small number of users, but they considered it to be pretty serious, hence why there is now a new version of this Android app.

Over the course of the next few days you will be asked to re-enter your login details, at which point you will then receive the update. However, you can just as easily go to the Google Play Store and download the new Spotify Android app now.

Looking at the Spotify app changes there doesn’t seem to be any, all it states is that this version is for housekeeping in order to delete the older version of Spotify.

We have heard from a few of our readers that this new app already has it problems, such as being forced to re-download the entire playlist. This isn’t so much of an issue if you are near Wi-Fi, but it is if you have to use your data.

Having said that, a majority of users are happy that Spotify acted quick in order to minimize such an attack.
