If you use Spotify Open you will have noticed ads which support the free music streaming service, well we are hearing that Spotify has recently pulled one ad which was infected with a virus.
According to BBC News the ad did not need to be clicked for users to become infected, if your computer had anti-virus software software installed you should be fine, however if not a bogus program called “Windows Recovery” may have been installed.
Spotify apologised for the issue and released the following statement “”We sincerely apologise to any users affected. We’ll continue working hard to ensure this does not happen again and that our users enjoy Spotify securely and in confidence”.
The first time the problem was reported was on March 24, apparently it used a tool for hackers knows as the Blackhole Exploit Kit to perform the attack. If you are infected you will probably see fake alerts suggesting that a critical hard drive failures affecting your system,
Later today we will post an article showing you how to remove the Windows Recovery virus (Update: removal guide can be found here). Were you infected by this virus? If so have you managed to remove it yet?
