Sony’s ‘Long Live Play’ PS3 Ad – Life after Kevin Butler

It is not a secret that Microsoft seem far more willing to advertise their products on TV than Sony does, and it has definitely been a while since we last heard from Kevin Butler. The answer to why he has disappeared though has been solved in excellent style, with Sony’s brand new ‘Long Live Play’ TV spot.

This probably has to be one of the best, if not the best PlayStation commercial that Sony has produced. We never thought we’d say that after seeing some of Kevin Butler’s hilarious ads, but we stand to be corrected here – with good reason.

Sony’s new ad features characters from some of the PS3’s most popular games, some characters are new and some are classics which will bring an instant whiff of nostalgia as well when you see it. The whole ad is about Sony taking the time out to respect their loved community by portraying a scenario where the video characters are all playing out their respective duties to serve one collective goal – to make the gamer happy, i.e you.

Sony previously sent out a request for gamers to send in photos of themselves playing PS3 and in the video below, you’ll see that Sony’s first selection is a gamer called Michael. Characters from franchises such as Uncharted 3, Metal Gear Solid, Tekken, Twisted Metal, LittleBigPlanet, Asssassins Creed and even Modern Warfare all pay tribute to Michael, and it seems like this video is the sign of a new direction for Sony after the Kevin Butler ads.

It’s awesome to see that Sony has even included the actual voice actors for some of the video game characters portrayed in their respective game. For example, Solid Snake is voiced by David Hayter in the ad, the same goes for Uncharted withNolan North and Cole’s character from inFAMOUS 2 as well. Watch the video below and let us know what you think of it.

Is this one of the best video games ads that you’ve seen?
