Sony Yuga spotlight before CES 2013

It is starting to look very likely that Sony will debut a brand new flagship smartphone in 2013 called the Yuga. We have already told you about this elusive device at the start of November, but now additional details have emerged on the 5-inch behemoth. The Yuga could now be set for a reveal at either of the two major smartphone conventions at the start of next year – CES 2013 which takes place in January, or failing that – MWC 2013 which will once again take place in Barcelona in February.

2013 is set to be another interesting year for the battle of smartphone supremacy with Samsung perhaps coming closest to, or even eclipsing interest over the iPhone 5 with both their Galaxy 3 and Galaxy Note 2 products – two devices which have proved to be very popular with consumers.

Samsung are set to wow again with the Galaxy S4, while Apple will inevitably try to turn heads again with an iPhone 6. RIM are hoping that 2013 is going to be the year where they are thrust back into limelight with their collection of BlackBerry 10 smartphones, but what about some of the other contenders?

HTC has just released their Droid DNA handset, Nokia has a hit on their hands with the Lumia 920 and Motorola are seemingly playing the waiting game before making their next move. One smartphone manufacturer that hasn’t been mentioned in the competition as of yet is Sony, but with their upcoming 5-inch Yuga, that may be about to change if it turns out to be worthy competition to Samsung and Apple’s dominance at the top.

Aside from a 5-inch 1080p display, rumors suggest that the device will also be rocking features such as Android Jelly Bean, a 12 megapixel camera, 2GB of RAM and as noted by The Verge – the ‘latest’ Snapdragon quad-core processor as well. Based on leaked pictures that have already been spotted for the Yuga, it looks like a very nice device from the outside, but as we have known with previous Xperia devices, Sony will still have their work cut out convincing consumers that this handset truly is the real deal.

Brand awareness is everything these days and regardless of what dazzling specs the Yuga may possess, consumers may just pick up a Galaxy S4 or iPhone 6 because that will be the popular trend at the time.

Do you tend to jump on this bandwagon as well, or will you consider the Sony Yuga if the hardware specs are the latest available?
