Sony Xperia S, SL jelly bean update is close

We have some good news for those of you who are currently in possession of the Sony Xperia S smartphone, and also other devices in this range such as the Xperia SL and Xperia Ion. Some of you may have been unhappy with the wait for an official update to Jelly Bena, but Sony has now sent out word that an update is very close indeed.

The Xperia S is a device that launched around a year ago to this date, but only shipped with Android 2.3 Gingerbread which was a disappointment for many consumers. Sony, like so many other companies had confirmed that an update to Jelly Bean would be coming soon after launch, but it never materialized.

A year later and we’re pleased to report that it looks like the Gingerbread agony will be over very soon. Sony has sent out a Tweet, informing owners that the Jelly Bean update is in the ‘final stages’. The company has also revealed that more news will be coming at some point this week, so hopefully they will be pinpointing some exact dates for us.

Aside from the Xperia S, SL and Ion Android 4.1 updates, you’ll also be pleased to hear that Jelly Bean updates will also roll out for the Xperia P, Go and Acro S handsets as well – so a very healthy list indeed. Google Now functionality is obviously one of the highlights of Jelly Bean, but consumers will also experience a brand new user interface and a much smoother performance rate compared to Gingerbread.

A new notifications menu will also put a smile on your face once you get used to Jelly Bean, so it’s good news all round. Do you own one of Sony’s Xperia handsets mentioned above? Let us know if you are a happy consumer at the moment, or if you wish you had picked a different brand handset instead from the likes of Samsung, Apple or Motorola.
