The tablet PC market is really beginning to heat up now, and the Apple iPad at last seems to have some serious competition with regards to market dominance. Amazon has really thrown a spanner in the works with the release of the Kindle Fire, which may not have the specifications of the iPad but beats it hands down on price. Today we can tell you that the Sony Tablet S joins a growing list with a big price cut.
This news will not go down to well with consumers who may have recently purchased the Tablet S, but according to VentureBeat the device just got officially $100 cheaper. From today you can pick up the Tablet S 16GB model for $399, which is now below the likes of the iPad and Transformer Prime. If you want more storage the 32GB version is also $100 cheaper at $ 499.
That’s not all though, to try and tempt you to part with your cash the company are also throwing in five free PlayStation games, and 180 days of its Music Unlimited service. You will also get credits and free downloads from Sony’s Video Unlimited store.
It is quite a big price cut from Sony but it remains to be seen if it will result in a big leap in sales for the device. The Tablet S has received some reasonable reviews since it was released, but it is still a fairly standard Android tablet in an already crowded market.
The device will eventually receive Ice Cream Sandwich according to Sony, although it will have to soon compete with whatever Apple are planning next for the market. Having a 9.4-inch screen does put it into iPad territory, and its curved back is supposed to make it easier to hold with only one hand.
We have seen in the past many tablet PCs fail make an impact on a highly competitive market, with some such as the HP TouchPad being discontinued altogether. Devices that are priced at the right level though can prove to be extremely successful such as the Kindle Fire. Currently there is no information regarding price cuts in other regions, but hopefully they will follow in the coming weeks
Have you recently purchased a Sony Tablet S? Will this price drop convince you to get one now?
