Sony Tablet S and P Android ICS release revealed

While the Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system has many smartphone users excited about getting their handsets updated, the same can be said about owners of Android tablet PCs. We recently told you that the Motorola Xoom had begun receiving the new software, and now we can tell you about the Sony Tablet S and P devices as the ICS release is revealed.

The guys over at TechRadar are reporting that Sony has told them that the update will be landing on its tablet range this coming spring. This is the first time Sony has mentioned a time frame for the new operating system.

Previously the company would only say it is coming soon, but at an event in London Sony has announced that both models will be getting the update at the same time in the spring. This means the two devices will be getting the updated software around the same time as some of Sony’s smartphone lineup.

Sony has also revealed some tasty information that both devices will also be getting a different update, which will bring Microsoft Office functionality to the tablet PCs, but would not go into more details for now. Sony also showcased its new PlayStation Certified platform on the Tablet S, and revealed that it is now compatible with a PS controller.

This will mean that users will no longer need to use the on-screen controls for playing games from the PlayStation Store. It is believed this provides a much better gaming experience on the tablet, as long as you have a stand for it.

The company was also in a confident mood about its share of the tablet market, and claimed to have the biggest selling Android tablet since it was released, but wouldn’t go into numbers. Earlier this month we told you about the price cuts for the Tablet S as the company looks to gain a stronger foothold in the crowded market
