Sony PS4 may miss out on Respawn Entertainment game

As far as gaming rumors go, this is probably up there with the biggest one we have heard in recent weeks. Respawn Entertainment is a name that many of you will be familiar with as the new studio formed by ex-Infinity Ward heads. It’s no secret that the studio has been secretly working on their first EA-published game for many months, but we’re hearing big rumors that their first game may not be appearing on any Nintendo or Sony systems.

In other words, Respawn Entertainment’s first game could very well end up as another Microsoft exclusive for Xbox systems. Anonymous sources have told gaming site Kotaku that this is a done deal and that the first game will be coming to the Xbox 360, as well as the next generation Xbox console, which is scheduled for an official announcement on May 21.

The Sony PS4 may have one rumored exclusive under their belt such as Final Fantasy Versus XIII, but it would be a pretty big blow if Respawn’s first game is only planned to release on Xbox. Even more surprising is that EA will be publishing the game and if true, it means that tensions between Microsoft and Activision may now arise with the infamous Call of Duty exclusivity agreement having been in place for years.

The game that is on the way has already been rumored to be called ‘Titan’ and Kotaku’s report also claims that the game will be an ‘always-on’ multiplayer shooter, which is also going to raise one or two eyebrows. Then again, always-on is much more suited to a multiplayer only game, so it perhaps wouldn’t be the end of the world if it happened.

Another potential exclusive shooter on Microsoft’s books – what are your honest opinions on this? Does Microsoft need other games that are innovative as exclusives, rather than talking with their wallets instead to beat out competition? Don’t forget that this is still a rumor until confirmed by Respawn or Microsoft.
