There is no stopping Sony’s PS4 as it has now hit 6 million sales with more than 14 million games also being sold too. Since concluding its global release in Japan, the console is now available in 57 countries and is showing no signs of a drop in demand.
Since launching the PS4 on home territory just over a week ago, more than 370,000 units have been sold, most commonly in Knack bundles which has boosted software sales. According to CVG, Sony’s decision to focus on releasing their console in the US and Europe first was a strategy to prevent Microsoft and the Xbox One from gaining an early territorial advantage.
Japan sold 350,000 PS4’s over the launch weekend, with the US reportedly shipping 1 million units on launch day. The PS4 has been nothing short of incredible in terms of popularity so far, with game sales also standing strong with over 13.7 million physical and digital copies sold for the platform.
So far Thief has sold many more copies on PS4 than Xbox One, however Microsoft may get some joy when their exclusives like Titanfall release soon. So far the the top selling games on PS4 have been Killzone: Shadow Fall, Knack, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Battlefield 4, Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag and FIFA 14.
Has the next generation console war been settled or can the PS4 still be surpassed by the Xbox One?
