Sony PS4 controller may boast gameplay recording

Are you ready for the next-generation of PlayStation gaming? After Sony’s announcement of a February 20 PlayStation Meeting, the whole gaming community is now braced for the potential reveal of the elusive PS4 console, after months of speculation and teasing. We now have some fresh whispers to bring you now, coming in the form of Sony’s rumored new controller for the console which could boast a touch pad similar to the PS Vita setup.

That is not what we want to talk about though, as Sony could have something even more exciting in the pipeline for fans and a feature which would certainly appeal to a lot of current PS3 owners. Edge Magazine has published a new report, claiming that Sony will include a ‘share’ button on the PS4 controller.

This share button will apparently give PS4 users the power to record up to 15 minutes of gameplay, on any game and at any time they wanted. Users could then take this clip and edit it directly on the PS4 or computer and then easily share it off to the sharing spaces online for quick viewing.

While it would be great for those that just want to upload some quick gameplay, it could also be a fantastic and efficient way for PS4 developers to interact with their customers in relation to bug fixing. Imagine playing a PS4 beta, discovering a bug and then letting the developers know in an instant due to the sharing feature?

It could take off in a big way for Sony and it’s definitely one of the features that we’d like to see in a new console, on top of all of the other rumors we’re hearing about a touchpad built into the controller. Nintendo wowed the world with their innovative GamePad, but could Sony take their touchscreen theme and expand on it with the PS4 pad?

Either way, it sounds both exciting and expensive. Let’s hope we hear more details on this interesting gameplay recorder though – let us know your initial thoughts on the idea in the meantime.
