A few weeks ago we heard the surprising comments from industry analyst Michael Pachter, on how he believed that it would be Sony’s PS4 console that came out on top vs the Xbox One in terms of launch sales. Now, we have the next notable prediction to give you, courtesy of the IDC or International Data Corporation.
We are getting closer and closer to the highly anticipated launch of both systems and we’re guessing most of you have already made the crucial pre-order to secure your console of choice this November. Analysts and critics alike are also getting excited about the launch it seems, as we’re now starting to hear more and more predictions on how the crucial sales battle will turn out following the first week of launch.
The IDC has decided to go bold on their predictions, by stating in clear terms that the PS4 will outsell the Xbox One this Holiday season due to a ‘variety of factors’. One of these factors is one that many will have guessed already – Sony’s $100 cheaper price point of $399, compared to the Xbox One which will hit the market at $399.
Microsoft has tried to alleviate the situation somewhat by bundling Kinect with the console and offering a free copy of FIFA 14 to launch day pre-orders, but it looks like many analysts have already made their mind up by thinking that the launch price will be the key differentiator.
Microsoft will obviously have something to say about the new prediction from the IDC, so it will be interesting to see if the company decide to offer further sweeteners to seal the deal from those consumers who are still on the fence between buying a PS4 or Xbox One.
Does anyone still think that Xbone can match PS4's sales? PS3 outsold 360 lifetime despite a higher price and releasing a year later.

One of these sweeteners could be to offer a free headset with the Xbox One, one missing aspect of the console that many fans want to see a definitive answer on. Sony already will offer a free in-ear headset with all PS4 consoles out of the box – regardless of which pre-order version is bought.
Do you have a feeling that Sony will come out on top in the launch sales war vs Microsoft, or do you still think it is an open race?
