We have some important details to share with those who are considering picking up the Sony NGP, aka the PSP2, as we’re hearing slightly worrying rumors that Sony has decided to downgrade the memory on one of the NGP’s models in order to compete with Nintendo 3DS pricing.
The rumors have surfaced from Industry Gamers, as they state that Sony will downgrade the memory from 512MB to 256MB of RAM on the WiFi only model i.e, not the model with added 3G connectivity support.
Furthermore, the source also states that there will no longer be 16GB of internal memory on the system, but instead the NGP will be utilizing external memory similar to the memory sticks used in the original PSP models.
If the news turns out to be true, then that’s obviously a bit of a bombshell. It does seem a bit farfetched for Sony to downgrade the system by such a margin just in order to be competitive with the Nintendo 3DS, but as you are well aware, Sony are always capable of one or two surprises.
What are your thoughts on this? Would you still consider buying a PSP2 if it came with external memory and 256MB of RAM instead of 512MB and internal memory? Don’t forget that these changes only affect the non-3G model of the NGP apparently. We’ll try and clear this rumor up for you soon.
