Sony NGP Dev site confirms PlayStation Vita name

If you checked out Product-Reviews.net this past weekend you may have read an article which reported a leaked name for the Sony’s next-generation portable (NGP), well now we can confirm that the PS Vita name we spoke about (here) has been pretty much confirmed by Sony.

A recent post on PlayStationLifestyle.net tells us that a website has been spotted which appears to confirm that the Sony NGP will be called the Vita, you can see the site for yourself here, the URL clearly shows “Vita” (http://vita.scedev.net/).

At first glance the website looks quite basic for such an established company, however there is all of the privacy and copyright information which we are used to seeing, We have done a bit of research and it looks like the Vita website is owned by Sony and was registered over 7 years ago.

To us it seems as if all of this confirms that the Sony NGP will be called the Sony Vita when it arrives later this year, however there is a small possibility that the Vita name was chosen but has since been scrapped. Hopefully all of this will be cleared up next week at E3 2011.

Since the first hearing rumors suggested that Sony’s next handheld will be called the Sony Vita we have seen lots of mixed reactions, therefore feel free to share your views on the name in the comments section below.
