Sony BWU-500S / OEM BD-5300S: 12x Blu-ray Writer

Sony Optiarc has recently unveiled two new Blu-ray burners, in fact they are identical, however one comes in retail packaging (BWU-500S), whilst the other is an OEM product (OEM BD-5300S).

The burners can write BD-R media at up to 12x, dual layer BD-R media at up to 8x, this allows your to record a full 25GB of data to a Blu-ray disc in just 10 minutes (give or take).

If you are still burning CDs and DVDs you will be interested to hear that they burn DVD+R/-R at up to 16x, dual layer DVD+R/-R at up to 8x, DVD-RW at up to 6x, DVD+RW at up to 8x and DVD-RAM at up to 12x. As for CDs, you can burn a CD-R at up to 48x, and CD-RW at a maximum of 24x.

Both the OEM and retail models use SATA connections for data, you should be able to pick up these drives later this month, however pricing is currently unknown.
