It is amazing what you can do with a Xperia Tablet Z and 3D camera, because a video has recently come to light showing a demo of Qualcomm’s latest AR technology ahead of their Uplinq conference. What is so great about this is how it will be able to be brought into games because the technology will be made available to developers.
This latest technology will be ready for game developers in spring 2014, and to give you a greater understanding of what will be possible we have included the video for you below, although it is just over a minute long and so just as you start to get into it, it is over.
In order to create this footage it took the use of two other devices, the first a Sony Xperia Tablet Z and the second a 3D sensing camera. You get to see just how easy it is to take everyday objects from the home and place them into a 3D landscape, in this instance a coffee table, tissue box, vase and a stack of magazines.

SmartMesh, which is a sub-technology within SmartTerrain was used, as it is the software that takes these objects and then works out their structures and then assign a mesh around them to populate it into a game. This would be perfect for the next Elder Scrolls title, although that will be several years away, not the online version though.
This is just a taste of what we can expect to see, but this is still in the concept stage and so will be a while before it will be widely used.
