Smart-Cane alerts a family member when had a fall

With all of the excitement about self-driving cars and hi-technology TV’s, it’s very hard for a company to break through with a big impression on a unique walking stick at CES last week. The french company wanted to bring the old dull walking stick back with a modern day fashion twist, so they decided to invent the smart-cane.

The audience is mainly aimed at elderly people with low mobility meaning it has a built in accelerometer and gyroscope to track the users movements. This also comes with an alert system that connects straight to the GSM network in case of a fall or an emergency however, if this is the case it will send alerts to a family member who can respond with a signal to let them know help is on its way.

The data is then collected from the cain and is sent to a secure server, A.I algorithms then process the data to understand the users habits and movements to reduce low activity, tiredness and other changes within their walking pattern.

For the French company to find the right design needed that could contain technology, still be light weight and ergonomic, they turned to Maison Fayet, a century-old cane maker. The final result ended in a very simple polished cane that conceals the sensors within the grip. People who are already familiar with this design shouldn’t have any problems in adopting to using this one. The smart-cane is due to be shipped over seas at the end of this year. Thanks to Engadget for the heads-up.
