The developers Sling Media has recently made several significant improvements to their product the Slingbox 500 that will also extend to the SlingPlayer app. The Slingbox 500 (if the reader is unaware) is a device that allows the user to redirect their television viewing to an electronic device such as a laptop, tablet, or mobile phone remotely via a broadband connection. So what are the new updates that are soon to be unveiled for the Slingbox 500 and the SlingPlayer app?
The first exciting update is the new premium video service called ‘Blockbuster on Demand’ for the Slingbox 500. This allows the user to rent movies and view trailers for viewing on their own personal televisions via a software client update. This in actuality means, that the user will be able to rent the latest movies for a monetary fee which then allows the user the capability to watch movies at their own personal pleasure.
Another important update revolves around the new addition of ‘My Media’. The function of the ‘My Media’ update is to allow the user the capability to access their own personal photos and videos when they are stored on a USB drive which is then attached to the Slingbox 500. This allows the users of PCs or Macs or iPhones to view their pictures wherever they may be by connecting to their drive back home. This has not yet been extended to the iPad or Android tablet devices, but work for this is already in progress and should be coming soon.
The updates now support Microsoft Windows 8.1 and IE 11 and Apple OS X Mavericks with Safari 7. Sling Media are also providing the function of AirPlay support for the SlingPlayer Mobile for iPhone and iPad. This allows the user the ability to watch their personal home television viewing on another television whether this is inside the home or at a remote location.
