As PS3 Skyrim owners patiently wait for their Dragonborn DLC content to arrive as a ‘suitable’ replacement for the still missing Dawnguard expansion, we are now starting to hear whispers on a possible fourth DLC expansion for Bethesda’s hugely popular RPG. You may have already heard the name ‘Redguard’ before, a name which Zenimax has already filed a trademark for almost two years ago. However, the trademark is apparently due to expire soon and speculation is mounting that Bethesda may be preparing to announce the new content as the first new DLC content for Skyrim in 2013.
What you won’t be aware of though is the fact that Zenimax has secretly been extending this trademark over the months, meaning that it obviously is very significant to the company for them to repeatedly extend the trademark so that it doesn’t expire. So far we’ve had Dawnguard, Hearthfire and Dragonborn released, with none of the content yet to land on the PS3 version of Skyrim – a major issue and cause of considerable frustration for owners.
With the Dawnguard PS3 crisis aside, Bethesda has now confirmed that Dragonborn is on the way to the PS3 and PC and will be releasing at sometime during ‘early 2013’. With that in mind, does it suggest that the next expansion pack which now may be called Redguard, will be on the way to PS3 users as well?
Microsoft’s infamous exclusivity agreement with Bethesda was ‘supposed’ to expire after Hearthfire, but Dragonborn once again appeared on the Xbox 360 before any other platform. It goes without saying that PC and PS3 owners will hope that Redguard will be released at the same time across all platforms, while also serving as something of a ‘fresh start’ for Bethesda in 2013 with no under the table agreements.
For proof of the existence of Redguard, you can check out the Zenimark trademark here courtesy of OXM, and see for yourself the successful attempts that has been made to extend it into 2013. This trademark is due to expire in February 2013, so we should get an announcement of Redguard as the next DLC by then, or indeed another trademark extension in between.
Let us know your initial thoughts on the idea of Redguard being the next DLC for Skyrim. Do you already have an idea of a potential storyline after playing through the story mode?
