Siri could be hacked to work on Android

Since it was launched alongside the new iPhone 4S the Siri feature has been regularly hitting the headlines. Earlier today we gave you the news that a future iOS update could be bringing new features to the service. This followed rumors that Siri could eventually find its way on to more iPhone models. Now we have news that Siri could be hacked to work on Android.

We have heard before about hackers getting the service onto the iPod Touch or iPhone 4, but now T3.com are reporting that mobile developers Applidium have managed to crack protocols used for Siri. This will mean it has the potential to work on Android or the iPad 2 if the right application was built for it.

The team worked out the service relies heavily on Apple’s own remote servers that explains why it wouldn’t work if you have no Wi-Fi or 3G connection. They then went on to discover that if you could work out the right code to communicate with Apple’s servers, it could then be sent from any device and not just the iPhone 4S.

If Apple doesn’t find a way of protecting the Siri servers from such communication from a device that isn’t an iPhone 4S, we could eventually see the service on such items as the iPad 2 or even a Samsung Galaxy S II. Of course Apple will have probably built something in to avoid this situation, but we often see other Apple software hacked by someone.
