The Samsung Chromebox Series 3 are not known for their speed because of the less than impressive hardware configuration, but there has been a surprising spec upgrade, which some consumers were not aware of before ordering, so a nice little treat for them then. Not much has changed but we do know that there is the more impressive Intel i5 processor, although it’s still a generation behind the current crop of i5 chips.
Those of you who had or reserved the Google I/O edition might be feeling a little hard done by now because these only had the less than impressive Celeron, and while the second-generation i5 CPU is not know for their speed, it certainly outperforms the Celeron processor.
In the Samsungs Chromebox Series 3 2013 refresh it seems that there are no other changes, so there is still the 4GB of RAM, 16GB SSD, and the same port configuration as well. There does seem to be some confusion as to why Samsung would wish to put in a processor like that because it seems a bit of an overkill when you consider the fact that these small desktop PCs run Chrome OS, native client and also HTML5 apps.
However, there is some confusion because we had assumed that Samsung was going to refresh the new Chromebox Series 3 with a facelift but still keep the same spec configuration. Having said that, maybe there will now be two models, the one mentioned above as a high-end version and the new design (seen here) which could be the new low-cost model?
