You may have already gathered that the Samsung Smart TV range is something worth having in your home, as they offer so much more than the standard TV. However, the Korean consumer electronics maker knew that when it came to controlling things from the comfort of your sofa, something different was needed. This is where the new Samsung QWERTY for the Smart TV comes in; here we thought we would get a hands-on perspective.

Engadget said that when the remote was first seen it was not as sleek as its end product, but we have come to see that with a number of devices over the years. These come as standard with the Samsung D7000 and D8000 Smart TV range, but is compatible with the D6300 line, which will come at an extra cost.

When the first remote came out they were not like they are now, but Samsung are now trying to evolve these devices even further, and you have to admire their effort. It seems that these TV makers are now trying to compete with each other with more than the TV. One thing that we will say about the new remote, it has a load of buttons, this could be a good or bad thing.

PC and Tech Authority managed to get some hands-on time with the new remote, and were impressed by how you could gain access to Pandora, Facebook and Skype from the menu area. Samsung know how important social media is, so it was obvious that they would adopt such features.

There are a number of cool features that make this QWERTY remote for the Samsung Smart TV stand out, such as directional pad, LCD display, and teletext keys. That is just on one side, the other features all the usual buttons, such as volume and channel changer, along with record and playback buttons. For those who choose a TV without the remote, then you should only expect one-cent change from a hundred dollars.

What do you think of the new Samsung QWERTY remote for the Smart TV, and is it worth the $99.99 standalone price?
