Samsung Q rumors ahead of Galaxy S II August release

You have to love it when you read some news only to discover an update for an ongoing story. We had heard a few rumors regarding a Samsung Q device; so felt that this needed to be investigated. This was when we came across something interesting, and that was the US release date for the Galaxy S II aka S2. According to the South Korean phone maker the S II will go stateside in August, although no specific date has been officially announced.

We already discussed how Samsung were offering a cheaper handset for those who are unable to afford the Galaxy S, and that is the R version. As for this Q device there is some confusion, as we do not know if it will be a tablet or phone, there are even suggestions that it could be both. The device is expected to be on show during IFA in Berlin in September, which is about the time that they will release their Galaxy S II+, as reported by Slash Gear.

The smartphone was made to bridge the gap between the phone and a netbook, so it was inevitable that something was needed to do the same between the smartphone and the tablet — who knows, the Q could be it? There are a few details going around, but they are unclear at the moment, due to the fact that they have come from Yahoo Korea, although they could all be correct.

From what we can see the Samsung Q will have a large 5.3-inch screen, and that it will be foldable — a bit like a Nintendo DS then. If this turns out to be true, then this could answer consumers concerns, as it is a known fact that the 4-inch or so screens on current smartphones are too small for a number of tasks, and the tablet is too large to carry around with you all day.

This rumored hybrid device might not even see the light of day, but as it is very similar to the Sony S2, we do not see any reason why not. Just maybe a new market will be born, and Samsung do not want Sony to get the jump on them. Currently Samsung is the biggest phone maker in the world, and something like the Q will allow it to stay that way.

Let’s hope that the Samsung Q does not have the same fate as the Dell Streak, which was also meant to bridge the gap between the Smartphone and tablet?
