Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9: New Specs and Details before CTIA 2011

We have just told you about two devices which have just been confirmed for CTIA 2011 for Sprint, but now we have fresh details on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9, the middle sized tablet between the 7-inch and 10.1-inch devices that we already know about.

We knew that this device was heading to CTIA 2011 thanks to some previous teasers from Samsung, but now some images obtained by PocketNow has dished a little bit more dirt on the device. As expected, the device will carry the name Galaxy Tab 8.9 like it’s smaller and bigger brothers, but what you didn’t know, is that the 8.9 will feature a custom version of Android 2.3 Gingerbread which will make it unique to other Honeycomb tablets that you currently see on the market, ie. the Motorola Xoom.

The 8.9 will introduce a live panel feature, which will allow users to customize their homescreen with live updating widgets such as email, weather, news and the latest stock exchange information. Samsung will also be showing off the multitasking features of the 8.9, by showing how their Mini Apps Tray will work. There are some pictures over at PocketNow which gives you an example of this.

We’re pleased to say that the Galaxy Tab 8.9 will feature a dual-core 1Ghz processor, along with a 1200×800 display resolution. It will be a thin device at 8.6mm and one which is pretty light too at just 470g.

Are you interested in this medium sized device? We haven’t heard any details about the larger 10.1 device for a while, we wonder what’s happened to that. Does the 8.9 appeal to you more, or are you waiting for the 10.1?
