Samsung Galaxy S3 vs. iPhone 5 for staying alive

There are a number of ways to test different smartphones but for us one of the most important factors is battery life, and with the Samsung Galaxy S3 vs. iPhone 5 you’ll notice a slight difference. Technology is moving on extremely fast and over the last couple of years we’ve seen memory, processors, and screen clarity receive major enhancements with the battery life only slightly improving. If you want to see how the Samsung Galaxy S3 vs. Apple iPhone 5 compare on a specs level, then see our previous article that lists just that, but on this page you’ll see a little more insight into how the batteries perform.

Battery life is the weak link — both the iPhone 5 and Galaxy S3 are technological masterpieces, and they’ve set new records for both Samsung and Apple, but the battery life is certainly one of the less favorable features for both smartphones. You can look at different tips for improving the battery in iOS 6 and Android Jelly Bean, but your best efforts will be lucky to see more than a day in real world tests. You’ll find a larger battery on the Galaxy S3, but both devices drain at similar times.

You can see how the Samsung Galaxy S3 stacks up against the iPhone 5 for battery life in the image below, which also reveals times for the HTC One X, and iPhone 4S. Laptop Mag had run this test and they state that the iPhone 5 has the best battery life at 7 hours and 13 minutes, which had been while continuously browsing the web over Wi-Fi. Second place went to the Samsung Galaxy S3 at 6 minutes and 55 seconds, so as you can see there’s practically nothing in it.

How much do you care about battery life when looking for a new smartphone? The iPhone 5 is pretty impressive considering the battery capacity of 1440 mAh, which is a lot less than the Galaxy S3 but lasts slightly longer, although if you were looking for a smartphone that has an amazing battery then we’d recommend the Droid RAZR Maxx. This handset delivers around 8.5 hours of battery life in the same tests. It is true that when most people look at a new smartphone it will be a brand they trust that comes first, then they’d focus on the operating system and specs of that device, so when it comes to the Samsung Galaxy S3 vs. iPhone 5, which do you prefer and why?
