Samsung Galaxy S3 next in patent hunt

We previously thought the Samsung Galaxy S3 design had been a lot different to the iPhone, and as such would never make its way into Apple’s targets following their court win. This doesn’t seem to be the case anymore, and today we’re hearing that both the Galaxy S3 and Note are being considered as in breach of Apple’s intangible property and they’re now focusing on these devices with a number of others.

It is worth noting that this case shouldn’t be confused with the recent patent verdict, which is due to the fact that Samsung added the Galaxy S3 to another case that had been lodged at the start of this year. Originally this separate case had been focusing on the Galaxy Nexus, although it now involves over 20 devices that feature popular products such as Samsung’s Galaxy Note 10.1, Galaxy S3, and first generation Note.

Are Apple taking things too far, or are they just trying to protect their intellectual property? We wonder if there is any true balance when tracking down any devices that a company thinks are breaching its copyright, although it could be that Apple are aiming big and then even if they get half way to the number of devices being banned, then this would be a massive achievement.

The problem for the consumer, especially Samsung and Android fans, is the fact that the more Samsung smartphones and tablets taken off the market, then the less choice consumers will see. Some Apple supports would look at this another way, and they see Apple on a mission to make other brands think outside of the box when designing a new phone or tablet, so this could mean a lot more variety in the marketplace rather than most devices being designed from a template of Apple’s products.

In this latest case Apple are claiming they will suffer a great deal of harm from Samsung’s violations, which includes 8 utility patents in the current case, and they want Samsung to stop launching “copycat products” into the marketplace, which cause harm to Apple.

How do you feel about the Samsung Galaxy S3 being pulled into the battle with Apple? We’ve embedded the amended complaint below this article, so feel free to take a look and let us know if you agree with Apple or Samsung in this matter. You can read more details on this complaint here, or see our earlier article for details on Jelly Bean and low stock thanks to increased popularity of the Galaxy S3.

And Coke was seriously damaged by Pepsi, so Coke should have claimed all sugar drinks were infringing on their innovative product design. Today we are missing out on a fascist coke empire.

I have a sgs3. Your battle was only a victory in the US and as such holds no ground in the UK. Apple did a great job revolutionizing the mobile industry and for such I pay homage. But now you are holding too much technology from your customers you will not be a serious contentedly. Oh and as for the iPhone 5 what chip are you putting in it? Samsung? I think we all know why that’s getting delayed lol. meanwhile I’m loving this Galaxy S3 with all its patent copy perfection ha ha ha.

I don’t know why they care. Samsung Galaxy S3 is the worst smartphone I have ever used. I had Droid Bionic and Droid X2 before. I miss my Motorola phones. Voice Recognition is very slow. Native MP3 player does not play in the background. Sometimes after just rebooting the phone, music does not play. When I have the phone output Jack plugged to the stereo, Audio, won’t play when I get a phone call, however, if I have my hands free speaker phone ON, the Audio of phone calls plays on the stereo!!!! Youtube, video capture button is missing. Car… Read more »

Being the most valuable company in history apparently isn’t enough for Apple. Now they want Samsung’s money and want to completely monopolize the smartphone market. I agree with Valmont that there will be a backlash from the public to this corporate bullying. I personally went out and replaced my EVO 4G with a Galaxy S3 rather than waiting for the iPhone 5 just because of Apple’s victory in the patent case and their subsequent attempt to stop sales of the GS3.

While I can understand Apple’s original lawsuit against Samsung, and, although I believe some of this patents should not have been given, I can respect the decision of the US justice system. However, this is just ridiculous, there has not been a verdict agsinst the S3, so how could it possibly be banned?

I was an Apple/iPhone user for years and a few months ago i switched to the Galaxy SIII. Not only was the price way less for way more product but also i can say i was a little excited to be released from the chains of Apple. And i will say, i was one that always said “Once you go to iPhone you wont go back to anything else”… The Samsung Galaxy SIII is by far the best phone i have have in a very long time. It can do what an iPhone does PLUS way more! It is way… Read more »

Soon… a riot will happen in every Apple Store across the world if Apple bans Samsung devices. But honestly, Apple has taken this BS way too far. They can’t accept the fact that Samsung will ALWAYS be one step ahead of them. I bet Steve Jobs is laughing right now…

I am continually reading about how Apple said that Samsung has been a bad boy and used their patents when they shouldn’t have and that they should pay. Well they did to the tune of one billion dollars. Now they want to go after the Galaxy S3 the Note and other Samsung phones? Why? Are u that afraid that Samsung is going to blow you out of the water? Apple has been the top dog for the last 3-4 years and if you want to keep your reign come up with something that people expect from Apple. Dont bellyache and… Read more »

I am liking Apple less and less as a corporation the more they litigate. They may have been brilliant in the past in making Apple’s products well thought of by the public while under Steve Jobs ‘s leadership RIP, but Tim Cook the current CEO is evidently focused on alienating a large segment of potential customers and making Apple appear in the public’s mind as a another corporate psychopath like the RIAA. Sure Apple can play the litigation game but it remains to be seen whether what ever they gain in the court system will be worth what they will… Read more »

So here you have a US co. sueing a South Korean co. in a US court and they win? No surprise really. Maybe they could try the same in the S.K. court? If they win then, then the world may take notice.. I have a MacBook and Ipod and rate them both and at the moment am weighing up Iphone against Galaxy. Both my boys have Iphones and rate them – added just so you know I’m not US bashing.

THIS IS THE MOST IDIOTIC WASTE OF TIME IVE EVER SEEN. THESE PHONES ALL LOOK THE SAME, WE SHOULD ALL LET APPLE SUE EVERY SINGLE ANDROID MANUFACTURER UNTIL WE HAVE ANOTHER MICROSOFT SCANDAL BREAKUP. APPLE IS TRYING TO MONOPOLIZE THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY EVEN AFTER THEY WERE HELPED INTO IT BY THE VERY ONES THEY ARE GOING AGAINST RIGHT NOW. POINTLESS. APPLE SHOULD BE STOPPED AND I HOPE SAMSUNG TAKES THIS TO THE HIGHEST AUTHORITY AND SIMPLY STOP PROVIDING IPHONE PARTS TO APPLE.

I don’t like apple products. Never had. I own a Samsung Galaxy S3 and wouldn’t replace it for an iPhone even if it was for a free iPhone. Thumbs down for apple. They are greedy and want everything to themselves. They are mad because an android is better than an iPhone.

Steve Jobs as the innovator there; Apple is going to have come up with something new if they want to keep up with other OEM’s. Tim Cook doesn’t have the chops and I think people are looking for alternatives. I love my MacBook Pro Retina Display but I’ll never give up my Galaxy S3.

Steven Elliott

let’s see; the S3 out sold Apple by a lot in the previous quarter so what it the logical thing to do? Sue them! Rather than try to make something else that could compete they’d rather just resort to legal battles. I am a huge MacBook Pro fan but I love my S3 and ain’t giving it up for love nor money.

Well Apple is going to be stuck between a rock and hard place come the iphone5 release with Samsung saying they sue the hell out of them if Apple releases a LTE phone. But they are going to start losing customers if they don’t.

Cookie1981

Didn’t Microsoft lose courts battles because companies were saying they were a “Monopoly” on their software and such… Isn’t this what Apple is trying to do by suing other companies? Monopolizing the market… Just a thought

Lets just see what the iphone 5 has to offer…if it can beat the s3, great. If it cant….well..we know that apple is losing their creativity as well

Apple have taken this too far, they are quickly becoming known as nothing more than corporate bullies. And as with all bullies, pretty soon no one will want to associate with them.

Apple’s development for the iPhone has lost it’s mojo. We have seen that over the corse of several hardware revisions. Little improvements and major disappointments during apple keynotes. I could be wrong and the iPhone5 could be the second coming of “the Jesus phone”. The way it is looking now though shows apple as scared. They rather litigate than innovate to keep their hold.

Apple can bring it on baby. Everyone knows this is about innovation which what Samsung has done for years. Apple products are BORING AND STALE. My Galaxy S3 pimp slaps any iphone that’s for sure
