Samsung Galaxy S3 AT&T update joy with multi-window

We have some great news for those still rocking a Samsung Galaxy S3 handset on AT&T. Users have been waiting a long time indeed for a major update, but we’re pleased to confirm that Android 4.1.2 is now available to install – at last bringing support for the popular multi-window feature that other carrier versions of the device have had for months.

As far as we’re aware, this update to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean is available right now, for manual installation only. That means Galaxy S3 owners on AT&T can head to their device settings to push the update themselves, as an OTA notification is still a few days away.

This will apparently be coming on August 7 according to AT&T, so it’s a good idea to get the update manually if you want to enjoy multi-window over the weekend. Aside from this great new feature that allows you to open two apps simultaneously next to each other, 4.1.2 will also add various other notable improvements.

These include an NFC feature called Auto ShareShot, which will allow you to enable a setting that shares photos and videos instantly when connecting with a nearby device via NFC. There’s also some enhancements to the SDCard, Calendar app and S-Voice service.

Unfortunately, there also appears to be a new barrage of AT&T bloatware as well upon installation – so watch out for that. Let us know if you have already performed the manual update, and how your device performance is after running Android 4.1.2 for a while. Will this keep you from upgrading for a while longer?
