Samsung Galaxy S II global sales, should Apple be worried?

You will probably well aware of the ongoing legal wrangling between Apple and Samsung regarding the alleged copying of Apple devices. This was escalated recently with the news that Samsung plan to block the launch of the iPhone 5 in Europe when it gets released. Meanwhile Samsung has seen record breaking success with its latest smartphone offering. But with the Samsung Galaxy S II global sales, should Apple be worried?

Samsung have just released the latest sales figures for its Galaxy S II smartphone, and they are impressive reading. According to PCMag the device has shifted ten million units in the five months it has been available in certain regions around the world. In South Korea it sold a total of 3.6 million with Europe not far behind on 3.6 million. In Asia sales of the Galaxy S II totaled 2.3 million.

Samsung proudly said in a statement that “in just five months the Galaxy S II has seen tremendous growth”. This has seen the smartphone to have a strong global position in the smartphone market. After only being available for 55 days the device shifted 3 million units, which at the time broke the company’s records. This was achieved thirty days quicker than the original Galaxy S.

The smartphone is only just becoming available in the US in its various different versions, with the Sprint version launching on September 16th. AT&T is expected to get their version at the beginning of October around the same time as the iPhone 5 is thought to be launching. While Verizon currently have no plans to have a version of the device on their network.

With this amount of success before the handset gets launched in the US, it does make you wonder if Apple are getting concerned about the competition it will offer to the iPhone 5. The Sales figures for the Galaxy S II are pretty impressive, and Samsung are reportedly already working on its successor for release next year.

Do you think Apple have anything to worry about from Samsung?
