Samsung Galaxy S II gets Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 update, original M.I.A

We have some great news for those of you who recently purchased a Samsung Galaxy S II smartphone. It looks like Samsung Italy has officially confirmed that the Galaxy S II will be getting the highly anticipated update to Ice Cream Sandwich.

That is not the only device though, as we also have a collection of other Samsung devices that are supposed to get the update to Android 4.0. Information uncovered from Android HD cites information from Samsung Italy for the news, and you can view the translated website here, as reported from Droid-Life.

According to the report, other Samsung devices that will get the update include the Galaxy Note, the Galaxy Tab 10.1, the 8.9-inch version, the 7.7-inch version and finally the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus as well – yes there actually are that many versions of the Tab if you didn’t know.

It is obviously great news for owners of those devices, but there are a few notable absentees that will immediately draw your attention. One of these has to be the original Samsung Galaxy S smartphone of course, since it is a device that many consumers still own and although it’s an old handset in comparison with current handsets, it’s still disappointing to hear that the device won’t get the update.

Considering that most models of the Samsung Galaxy Tab are listed above, it will be deemed a bit of a shock that the original Galaxy Tab has been skipped off the list. We wonder if Samsung will put it down to hardware restraints like Google did when they announced recently that the Nexus One smartphone wouldn’t get the update to Ice cream Sandwich.

Hopefully we’ll hear a more concrete confirmation of the news during next week. For now though, it will be seen as great news for Samsung Galaxy S II owners. If you still have the original Galaxy S, let us know your thoughts on this – disppointed, or expected you feel?
