Samsung Galaxy S: Froyo Release Date Update for UK

We have some good news for our readers in the UK now, as Samsung has just confirmed that the Android 2.2 Froyo update for the Galaxy S smartphone will be releasing early next month.

You are probably aware that the update is now available for Galaxy S owners in other regions, but at least Samsung UK has informed their customers of a release ETA.

As reported from Phandroid, Samsung UK has just sent a Twitter message out, stating that Froyo will be available ‘early November’ for Galaxy S owners in the UK.

Here it is in full: ”The Froyo upgrade will be available in the UK from early November and we expect all operator versions to be available by the end of November.”

Hopefully by early, they are indicating that it will be out during the first week of November, but you never know with these pesky Froyo updates.

If you have a Galaxy S and live in the UK, let us know your thoughts on this. Are you upset that other regions have it and you do not?

i have been waiting for this release for a long long long long time. but they always postpone the release date , that is funny. why always in uk we dont do thing as simple as we can? anyway i dont want it any more coz i move to another make and am pretty much happy .htc.

not too bothered about the update being delayed again, i would rather have it all singing and dancing than with errors and stuff. so will wait for the gps fix. as for the skype issue!!! why go with skype?? there are better companies out there than skype for your voip calls, go to and give them a ring to see what they can do as they are a voip based company, u get it cheaper, better quality, and more features. skype is just a cheap imitation. i know what i am talking about being a programmer for voip based products.

    @Observer 10,
Thanks for the tip, I'll give it a go.
Apart from the Skype issue all that's wrong for me is the inability of the phone to hang on to wifi connections when the SSID is hidden,. I've tried the fixes but basically I just have to reset the security to WPA (from automatic) evert time.
I haven't noticed a lag issue (but I do use it mostly as a phone) and the GPS on mine is fairly good, on a par with my old TomTom

Judging by the underwhelming response to the leaked Galaxy S Froyo roms, that fixed neither the awful GPS performance nor the lags, I sincerely hope that was a bit of 'free testing' at the public's expense and that the actual release will address all the issues. Seeing as they've now put the release back twice though.. I won't be holding my breath.

As to taking their time rather than getting a buggy release out being an excuse..that didn't bother them first time.

To Gary H ..try works just about OK for me for Skype calls.. but I agree it's another slap in the face to be unable to use Skype till they finally get this thrice promised release out.

Zero chance of me buying anything Samsung again.

Bought a Galaxy s to replace and iphone as soon as Skype for android was announced (I travel a great deal). First Skype came out except for the Galaxy S then advised that it will work when I upgrade to Froyo. So far these delays have cost me more than the phone did…….not a happy bunny.

You can make Skype calls on your Galaxy S using Nimbuzz

First September then October and now we are told early November. We’ll probably see it summer 2011 🙁

Not at all bothered other regions have got it first. I'm sure there are regional tweaks needed, and I'd rather they took longer and got it right than rushed out a buggy release.

I agee with you but that might be an excuse for not realising it in. the uk

Mildly annoyed that this is now the 3rd (i think) official release, i understand testing must be thorough but it's quite unfair on us geeks that were originally expecting it a month ago. Especially considering the supposed performance increase this should bring to the device. If indeed there will be one!

I was happily waiting expectantly at the start of the month for the new update as that was the second official date, thinking perhaps they had just had to push it back a bit to finalize the touchwiz UI intergration… But now it's stretching peoples patience very thin. Samsung will be lucky not to get a massive backlash from these delays from their Galaxy S customers.
