Two of the biggest titans in the smartphone industry, Apple and Samsung, are about to promote their newest phones at press events just days apart. Samsung is expected to deliver juicy details for their Galaxy Note 2 on August 29, and Apple is rumored to unveil the iPhone 5 at an event on September 12.
Samsung’s Galaxy Note 2 is receiving a lot of attention thanks to the surprise success of the Galaxy Note, although both these smartphones are aiming for different users considering the size difference. The iPhone 5 should come with a slightly bigger design, and the Galaxy Note 2 will be even bigger with a massive 5.5-inch display. If you like to make a lot of phone calls then you might find this phone too big, although mobile gamers, emailers, and those of our readers that don’t hold their phone up by an ear all day might enjoy the larger screen.
The image you can see above is obviously inspired by the Samsung Galaxy S3, and an unnamed tipster has claimed that this is in fact the Galaxy Note 2, which is known to be inspired by the Galaxy S3 although no official images have been released for the final design. The alleged picture gives us a taste of what the front panel might look like, but it might be a good idea to take the authenticity of this photo with a pinch of salt considering the source didn’t confirm the origin, so it could be fan-created.
Not too far from what the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 should look like — one thing is for sure and that is this photo is pretty close to what we expect, especially when we look at the rumors leaking from different sources over the last few weeks. The tipster also attached some specs with the alleged Galaxy Note 2 photo. These included an 8MP camera that has the same sensor used in the Galaxy S III, a 1.5GHz quad-core CPU (Exynos 4 Quad), and a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED screen with a 1280×800 pixel resolution.
The Jelly Bean update is unlikely to be ready for the Galaxy Note II release date – there is always a chance we’ll see Jelly Bean ready for launch, but according to this tipster the current testing points to Android 4.0 ICS at launch, and then Jelly Bean arriving shortly after release, which follows the rumors we have heard before.
Will you be following Samsung’s press conference on August 29, and if so what do you want the event to bring? We’d also love to hear your thoughts on the alleged photo above, and if you think it’s real or at least near what the final Galaxy Note 2 design will be?
