With the imminent release of the Galaxy S II, Samsung are now pushing hard to dominant the phone market, which is evident with the rumors of the R and Q. However, there is now evidence that Sammy want to make a Galaxy 3D, and looking over some of the proposed specs it will give the HTC EVO 3D and the LG Optimus 4G a run for their money.
3D has already started to take over the TV market, with Samsung being a major player in that market. However, this is still new to the cell phone market, and it is shocking that Samsung has not even got a foot on the ladder. It is not a done deal yet, but if we know Samsung, they will want to compete with their rivals in this growing market.
Samsung will have an advantage that some of the other phone makers will not have, and that is being able to use their experience with their 3D TVs. If they get the balance right then this could be the best Galaxy smartphone yet. Sammy Hub were first to break this, well after translating it from the Korean website ETNews, who suggests that we can expect the release of the new Android handset in the fourth quarter of 2011.
The processor used is rumored to be the new 1.2GHz dual-core Exynos, the HTC EVO 3D also uses a 1.2 GHz dual core CPU, and the LG Thrill 4G only offers a 1GHz dual-core. The Galaxy 3D is expected to share the same 4.3-inch screen size as the other two handsets already on the market. However, Samsung could trump them in the camera department, as the rumored handset is expected to have an 8-megapixel shooter opposed to 5-megapixel from the other two.
Android 2.3 Gingerbread is expected to be the mobile OS of choice, but depending when released it could take advantage of Ice Cream Sandwich instead. You have to remember that Samsung is now playing catch up in the 3D smartphone market, and by the time the Galaxy 3D gets released both LG and HTC would have upgraded their portfolio by then.
Samsung could shock us and increase that processor to 1.5GHz, which would make sense, as this is also rumored to be the CPU for the Galaxy S II+, if the thing exists that is. The South Korean phone maker will have to battle it out with the iPhone 5, but at least we know that Apple have not been exploring the idea of 3D on their smartphone just yet.
