With the likes of Jaguar and Bentley moving ahead with their SUV programs, we knew that Rolls-Royce would have to relent at some stage. There have been rumors over the past few years, but now the prospect of a Rolls Royce SUV is looking more likely.
Giles Taylor, the design boss over at Rolls Royce has said that his team is still in the process of creating sketches to see if an SUV concept is viable for them because the carmaker needed to get the design and proportions correct.
While this is no admission that Rolls Royce will release an SUV in a few years, it does make us wonder why they would defend that such a model would not undermine them as a brand. That and the fact that Taylor said the “function and functionality” of an SUV is an intriguing one.
Possible Rolls Royce SUV price — So we know that the project is still in its early stages, many of you have asked how much this SUV would be likely to cost, and Autocar has reported that we could be looking at a figure of £200,000 and above, and they also believe that it would be considered part of the Ghost family.
Proposed Rolls Royce SUV design — Taylor did give a few clues as to what Rolls Royce’s Sports Utility vehicle would look like, and he said that the aim is for it to be functional and look more like a shooting brake rather than a crossover, and will feature a sloping roof.
To give you an idea of what this model could look like, Autocar has created a render, which you can see on their website. We also have a video of what the Rolls Royce SUV interior and exterior could look like. And, as for the Rolls Royce SUV release, we shouldn’t expect to see it on our roads until late 2017 at the earliest, which is perfect timing because this is not long after the Bentley SUV.
