Rollout begins as Nexus S gets Ice Cream Sandwich

In recent weeks there has been much news about Google’s new Galaxy Nexus handset that has finally launched for consumers in the US. This followed issues that surrounded the version of the device that UK consumers had access to. Now we have news as the rollout begins for the Nexus S as it starts to get a taste of Ice Cream Sandwich.

Earlier this month we told you that testing had begun with the new Android operating system on the Nexus S, and according to Recombu the update is becoming available to Nexus S handsets around the world. Google have advised that if your handset has not received the Android update yet to be patient.

But you can try and apply the update to your handset manually by searching and downloading the Ice Cream Sandwich install package yourself. Obviously only do this at your own risk and you can then copy the data to your Nexus S and rebooting it.

Some of the improvements that Nexus S users can look forward to include the new lock screens, new Face Unlock feature, notifications can now be dismissed by swiping, and an easy screenshot option. If you don’t fancy updating your Nexus S manually Google have said the update will be rolling out over the next month.

This news comes after Google announced the Android 4.0.3 update that will be available in the coming weeks, which is set to fix a number of issues. These include new camera capabilities and improvements in spell-checking, Bluetooth and more.

Has your Nexus S received the Android update yet?
