To mark the release of the new Robocop movie an application has appeared for iOS devices which could be the ideal app for fans of the film. The Robocop app for iPad and iPhone comes courtesy of Glu Games Inc. and we are intrigued to know if this resembles the fun coin-operated arcade game that was really enjoyable back in the day.
While questions have been asked about the upcoming movie which is scheduled to arrive on the 12th February, we understand that Samuel L. Jackson, Gary Oldman and Michael Keaton will be among a large cast that intends to attract moviegoers, although we are unsure this will be as gritty and violent as the X rated original.
Returning to the app, this official game of Robocop the movie is a free application available on the iTunes App Store and starts off with the part-man, part-robot police officer training and learning how to encounter dangerous criminals. Players will join the OmniCorp program as they shoot through console quality training simulations, use drone strikes and save hostages, as well as capture informants and battle other robots such as the EM-208 and the ED-209.
Once you are acquainted with the game players can also upgrade their robotic suit and weapons to update the evolving technology available at OmniCorp. The free-to-play game also gives players the opportunity to use real money for some extra items and this can be charged to your iTunes account.
The official page also highlights some user reviews in which some suggest this game has all the gloss and good looks expected from a Robocop game, although after playing one level the novelty wears off pretty quickly. Other reviews give us the impression users are not happy about the real money upgrades available.
In addition, mixed reviews tell different stories as some are currently enjoying this game and feel the graphics are superb, regarding this as an addictive and worthy addition to complement the upcoming film.
We recently highlighted how the arrival of the movie reboot could give developers reason to contemplate a PS4 and Xbox One game, in which we spoke about the recent trailer and how good it looks. Robocop could be the ideal format to make an updated game for the next-gen systems and we also mentioned how a studio like Rocksteady could pull off a title like this.
While we inform our readers that there is no guarantee a new Robocop game will emerge this year, we would love to see a decent game release with the movie.
