We recently gave you a roundup of some recalls that occurred during last month, and only a few days into this month and we have news of another one for you. Because of a risk of sudden airbag deployment has led Chrysler to recall 300,000 minivans in the US.
The auto maker has said that a leak from the air conditioning and heating system could result the Occupant Restraint Control module to fail. According to an article detnews.com this may lead to the sudden deployment of the airbags. This can happen without warning or notification from the warning light.
Chrysler will start writing to customers next month, and comes after the company made a recall of the minivans back in November. The last recall concerned a replacement drain tube and grommet to prevent the chance for water to condense and make its way into the airbag module. Chrysler thought the problem at the time only affected three percent of the models recalled.
Models affected by the recall include 299,718 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan, Chrysler Town & Country and Chrysler Grand Voyager minivans. There are also 50,251 vehicles in Canada, Mexico there is 3,748 while elsewhere another 13,633 are affected.
The company has said that there have been no reported cases of airbags going off in the vehicles that had previously been recalled and repaired. Head of Chrysler’s product investigations and campaigns, David Dillon, said that even though there hadn’t been any reports of incidents, the company thought “it is in the best interest of our customers to replace these modules to ensure the proper functionality of the minivan’s advanced safety system”.
Chrysler is not the only company who has recently recalled vehicles because of sudden airbag deployment. Back in April Ford expanded its recall of its F-150 pickup trucks because of airbags suddenly going off without warning.
Back in June Volvo issued a recall to some of its S60 model because of faulty fuel pumps could lead to a sudden stalling of the vehicle. Recalls are not always confined to cars, as last month we reported the worrying news surrounding Beko fridge freezer’s and house fires.
