Review of the Kenwood KM240Si Prospero Kitchen Machine

If you’re starting out or don’t have a lot of space in your kitchen, then you’ll need a food mixer that gets the job done simply and within a compact machine. The Kenwood KM240Si Prospero Kitchen Machine delivers easily to this type of user, and we’ve had the pleasure of getting hands-on over the past week.

The Kenwood KM240Si will tick boxes for what most people need in a food mixer and during our review we found out first hand. While it’s not easy to pick holes in this kitchen machine, there are a couple of drawbacks, but first of all let’s take a look at what you get inside the box.

What’s Inside The Box – When you first open up the Kenwood KM240Si, you’ll notice how well everything has been packaged and quickly find the three bowl tools along with the main unit.

You can see everything that comes inside the box below, which includes the whisk, dough hook, k beater, stainless steel bowl, the plastic splash guard, and main Kenwood KM240 Prospero Stand Mixer. There’s also some documents that include the main instructions, we suggest you read through these to avoid making any mistakes during first use.

Compact Design – It’s clear how compact this kitchen machine is below, although don’t let that fool you, as it’s pretty powerful too! The Kenwood KM240Si Prospero is designed to tackle a number of food mixing tasks within the large 4.3 litre stainless steel bowl that can whisk 8 medium egg whites or 500g of bread dough with ease.

All powered by a 900W output and planetary mixing action designed to deliver optimum results, so you get the ingredients mixed with no unstirred pockets.

Bowl Tools – The tools are featured on the front of Kenwood’s Prospero, as mentioned above these include the K Beater, Whisk and Dough Hook. You will want to fit the Splash Guard during use, which can be done by unlocking and adjusting the height first as seen below.

Simple unlock, then lift and lower as desired, it couldn’t be simpler.

You can see when fully raised, there’s plenty of room to work with ingredients before closing and fitting the Splash Guard.

Splash Guard – After filling the bowl with the desired ingredients to be mixed, or blended, the Splash Guard can be fitted before lowering. This helps keep you and your kitchen clean.

There are some occasions you won’t want the Splash Guard fitted, like seen in the image below with the K whisk in action during making cakes and mixing. The whisk seen above is ideal for eggs and batter mix, also these attachments are easy to change.

Versatile With Optional Accessories – You can expand the use of your Kitchen Machine by simply locating and locking accessory attachments via the top of Kenwood’s Prospero.

You can see options displayed on the cover above, this is easy to remove where you find exactly the place to fit accessories to expand your machines abilities.

For example, you can fit the Processor attachment as seen below, which locks into place after a simple turn and can be fitted with one of three blades. These allow for thick slicing, thin slicing, or even creating breadcrumbs. It’s just as easy to fit the blender jug, again this is an accessory not included in the basic package.

The blender jug will allow you to create soups or lovely smoothies, perfect for mixing it up depending on the time of year, or how you’re feeling.

This view of the KM240Si seen below reveals where the blender jug is fitted, just to the right currently with the cover fitted. It simply locates and slots on with ease.

The variable speed control plus pulse function helps deliver simplicity and robust performance from the 900W output. You’ll also be happy to know the Prospero is fully interlocked for extra safety.

Non-Slip Feet – The bottom of the Prospero reveals non-slip feet, which again add to both safety and keep everything still while mixing. We found they kept the unit very still, even sticking solidly after just placing the Prospero on a kitchen side.

While this food mixer won’t be for everyone, it’s well suited to a wide-range of people and certainly enticing to those new to baking and limited with space, it made us want to start baking again. The Kenwood Prospero Mixer will do all the hard work for you, perfectly whisking, kneading, and beating the ingredients you choose to make masterpieces only limited by your imagination.

Main Features:

  • Full safety interlock system
  • 4.3L Stainlesss Steel bowl
  • Variable speed plus pulse
  • 3 bowl tools; k beater, whisk and dough hook
  • Planetary mixing action

Pros – Great if space is at a premium, easy to mount and clean, versatile with the ability to blend to make amazing smoothies or mix the lightest cakes, great value for money, and perfect for family kitchens.

Cons – The speed dial is found on the right side and sadly doesn’t stop at zero, so you can continue to turn the dial moving from slowing down to suddenly full speed. While overall we loved the Kenwood KM240Si Prospero and highly recommend it, it would be nice to see a future model have a speed dial that stops at zero.
