Retina MacBook Pro increases battery replacement cost

Apple love to launch a new product and explain with taglines that you’ve never seen anything like it, and this is exactly what they did with their new Retina MacBook Pro for 2012 although every change has hidden costs. It seems that the new Retina MacBook Pro has resulted in an extra battery replacement cost, which the price increase has been confirmed by Apple’s own service documents.

You will notice that the Retina MacBook Pro battery replacement cost will vary by country, you can see this in the image below that is shown in Apple’s “Replacing the Battery” documents, and the new Mid 2012 Retina MacBook Pro will cost $199 pre taxes for a battery replacement. This is an increase when compared to the old 17-inch MacBook Pro at $179 pre taxes, although Apple has not commented on the reasons for a price hike.

The Retina display on the new MacBook Pro delivers the highest-resolution on any laptop display, according to Apple, and has more than 5 million pixels on a screen resolution of 2880×1800. This is a massive difference and one that some people can understand when you think it has 3 million more pixels than a high definition television, which can be seen in the image example below.

Did you manage to buy a Retina MacBook Pro before the shipping date changed, and what do you think about the rise in battery replacement cost?

I bought the MacBook pro with retina display once it was available before the shipping date changed, but it still says 2 to 3 weeks. Well I guess we’ll soon find out if it’s all worth it. Still keeping an eye on the stores just in case they get it first.
