As you may already be aware, two franchise-favorites in the Resident Evil series are being ported to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 that comes with extra content, trophies, achievements and also added HD rendering.
We first heard about this news when it was leaked details in an issue of the Japanese video gaming magazine Famitsu, now we have heard more from Capcom’s Resident Evil panel during Comic-con, here they revealed that two new HD ports of Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil Code: Veronica were in the process of being developed, and will come to us in the form of digital downloads via Xbox Live and the Playstation Network.
No word yet on the price for either of these games, but we are told by Capcom to expect “budget pricing,” which can only be good news for fans of the Resident Evil series, especially those who enjoyed Resident Evil 4 and Code Veronica respectively.
So when will you be able to get your blood soaked hands on these titles? Well, we are told that Resident Evil 4 will be released on September 20, whilst Code Veronica will be released a full week later on September 27. Not long to wait now.
Although information is rather scarce at the moment, we know that both titles are part of the Resident Evil: Revival Selection. Code Veronica is said to feature extra cut scenes that never made to the final cut in the Dreamcast version that was released 11 years ago in the year 2000.
One hindrance that could be a factor in these remakes could be that it was not very successful when Code Veronica X was ported to the GameCube in 2003 after originally being released for the Dreamcast. The port boasted updated and new cut scenes, with some graphics changes also thrown in for good measure.
Unfortunately, this did not work out well for Capcom as the game was highly unchanged and unaltered which resulted in unfavourable reviews from select websites on the internet, including that of X-Play who only rated the port 1/5.
The original Dreamcast version on the other hand faired unbelievably well, and was generally well received by the gaming community. IGN, GameSpot and GamePro all rated the game in the higher 9’s (out of 10) and 4’s (out of 5). Code Veronica went on to sell nearly 3 million copies worldwide.
Resident Evil 4, when first released in 2005 also made it big in review scores. Fairing much better than Code Veronica, the GameCube version managed stellar reviews as well as PlayStation 2, Nintendo Wii, and Microsoft Windows versions.
How do you feel about Resident Evil 4 and Code Veronica being re-released and remastered in HD for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360? Will you be purchasing?
