Reports of HTC Sensation touchscreen problems surface

My colleague Jamie Pert was recently lucky enough to spend some time with the HTC Sensation, and was pretty impressed with the device. But with any new product there can be issues, as we now have reports of HTC Sensation touchscreen problems surfacing, with owners complaining of a non-responsive screen.

According to an article on Phandroid.com some owners have been reporting of some issues surrounding the devices big touchscreen. Some have found the screen becoming unresponsive, and won’t pick up quick button presses or swipes. Sometimes the screen won’t even register any input at all, which is not only frustrating but also dangerous in an emergency situation.

It is not known how many units the problem is affecting, but on my HTC Desire HD I have once experienced this problem and it was after the handset was updated to Android Gingerbread. A T-Mobile customer has said the carrier is aware of the issue and is waiting to hear back from HTC. Below you can see a video by the team at Android Police showcasing the problem on a HTC Sensation.

At present there is now fix available, with factory resets and replacement handsets not fixing the issue. This has led to many wondering if it is a software problem, which Sense ROMs experienced the same problem on the G1. If it is a software issue then HTC can easily fix the problem with an OTA update. Hopefully it won’t take long before the company does fix the problem and stop the frustrations experienced by some HTC Sensation owners.

On the XDA developer’s page there is a long thread of owners complaining about the problem, with some possible solutions included. Bizarrely one quick fix is giving the device a quick squeeze, and other users have pointed the finger at what surface the handset is placed on while charging. These fixes only seem temporary and there is an OTA fix rumored to be in the works.

Have you had any issues with your HTC Sensation?

I am having this problem with my second HTC Sensation, though only when I am charging it. (for not at least) I am using the HTC Sensation charger as well. Very irritating. I’ve already had to deal with ordering a new Sensation and am annoyed at the thought of having to send this one back too. One would think they wouldn’t release a phone with so many problems… My other phone had TERRIBLE volume, both on calls and speakerphone.

i have no problem with my HTC sensation at all after using it for 2 months. Looking at the videos, it rather not convincing of the existing of the problem at all. The issue seems relatively hard to be duplicated and i am sure that any touch screen phone, will have the similar “issue” (if we really think this is an issue). Just take any touch screen device and swipe like what the guy doing. I’m sure you will discover the same thing.

At first I thought my fingers are losing body temperature but a quick google search confirmed it’s rather a handset problem. Very frustrating, SMS messages and e-mails now take much longer to write and idea of “business super phone” by HTC seems funny at best. Waiting for a quick fix for this.

My sensation has this issue especially with the swipe motion required to unlock the screen. Other times the buttons on the screen are completely unresponsive. I’ve already returned one sensation, but the replacement is no better. HTC doesn’t have a timeline for doc fix as of 8/8/11.

I have a device with the touch screen problem !I tried the discharge procedure without success. One strange thing I have seen is that if I use multitouch some points stays on the screen , after a while all fingers is on the screen , and you cant use your device until you turn it off and on again. This behaviour appears more often if you dont have the device in your hands. Here is an example with the program multitouchtest from markethttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Byge9xsCeqk
