Red Droid DNA now available for a premium

The Droid DNA is a pretty luxurious handset that HTC has designed as a successor to their successful HTC Incredible smartphones, that customers were very favorable towards when they first came out. The Droid DNA is available to buy now on Verizon Wireless in a single color, but we’ve just heard that another variant is available in red, but not under normal circumstances. It turns out that Verizon is offering a stylish red Droid DNA, but only if you are an employee of the company.

This is not the first time that we have seen instances of Verizon offering limited edition versions of handsets, and we’re sure it won’t be the last either. Photos showing the rare red edition have been uploaded online, revealing that Verizon has included the text ‘Verizon Employee Limited Edition’ on each model on the back casing of the device.

While these are thought to be strictly off bounds to the average consumer, we’ve already done some digging and found out that there are already two of these special editions currently selling on Ebay. Again, it isn’t the first time that employees have put their free swag up for sale on Ebay and Craigslist, but if you head to Ebay now, you’ll be able to see the red version in question with a current selling price of around $550-700.

You can expect this figure to escalate significantly as well, as some sharks look to score a last minute victory ahead of those who have already bid. Interestingly, both product descriptions fail to mention that this is a device exclusive to Verizon employees, but they do mention that it is a special edition, so it’s obviously the employee version that we’re dealing with here.

The question is though, how badly do you want a rare version of the Droid DNA? Will you be willing to pay up to $1000 for a device that doesn’t have MicroSD support and just 16GB of internal memory? It’s worth noting that one of the sellers states that the device does in fact have MicroSD support, but as far as we’re aware the red version is exactly the same as the standard black model – so this information is incorrect or the seller has edited that on purpose to make the sale more appealing.

Are you going to make a bid on the red Droid DNA, or are you not interested?
