PS4 update 2.0 Share Play is a game changer

For those that are just catching up on Sony’s PS4 GamesCom event, one of the big announcements was the unveil of PS4 update 2.0. We knew that the update would be classed as a major one when it arrives, but now Sony has lifted the lid on the big feature that will be advertised with the update.

Most of you will be already aware that Sony advertised a PS4 feature prior to launch that allowed other PS4 users to help friends in need by taking over their game at certain moments of distress.

Now as we move close to the one year anniversary of PS4, Sony are finally ready to deliver on this promise with PS4 firmware update 2.0. It’s going to introduce PS4 Share Play, a feature that will allow players to enter other player’s games.

The beauty of this is that they will not need a copy of the game in question as Sony are marketing this feature as a ‘virtual couch’ for a friend. You will apparently be able to play any co-op game online with a person on your friends list – using NBA 2K14 as a prime example of one scenario.

You’ll also be able to use Share Play to ‘virtually’ pass your controller to a friend, allowing him to take over it and help you on a certain section of a game if you need help.

This was the feature that we were expecting to see, but the co-op online gameplay idea sounds amazing. There also seems to be a lot of confusion in the air on how Sony are actually going to get this working, so the sooner we see some gameplay evidence of this the better.

There’s no PS4 update 2.0 release date yet, but Sony has said that it will be ready sometime in the Fall. Let us know your initial reaction to the whole concept behind Share Play and whether you agree that it could be a game changer for the PS4 moving forward into 2015.
