PS4 release date, price in Hong Kong ends silence

We finally have the key information that our readers in Asia were waiting for. Sony has announced the PS4 release date in Hong Kong, as well as a final price that consumers will be able to buy the new console for. As expected, the system will launch at the same time in Hong Kong as other neighboring Asian countries, meaning gamers won’t have to wait until a February 2014 launch in Japan.

Without further ado though, we’re pleased to confirm that Sony has now gone official on a December 17 release launch in Hong Kong. The price of the console will be set at $3380 HKD, which translates to around $435 or £272, which isn’t too bad at all.

Some gamers in Hong Kong were fearing that they may have to pay high import prices from US models in order to get their PS4 fix in 2014, but now it looks like it won’t be necessary. Having said that, we hope that Sony intends to stock up on PS4 consoles in the country, otherwise some consumers may face paying over the odds on the black market – just as we see all the time with new iPhones.

Hopefully this won’t be an issue though and Sony will be able to meet the inevitable high demand. It’s great that while Sony are making Japanese gamers wait until 2014, Hong Kong gamers are not being placed in the same boat.

How excited are you about the Hong Kong PS4 release date on December 17? Will you be hoping to pick up a console before Christmas for $3380?
