PS4 release date dilemma for Asia gamers

While everyone in the west is delighted that Sony has now confirmed a November PS4 release date in Europe and US respectively, it is a surprising contrasting turn of events over in Asia. Sony has decided to launch the PS4 in Japan in February 2014, meaning that passionate fans in Hong Kong are also set to miss out on the November launch joy.

For those that missed the recent announcement along with the PS Vita ‘2’ unveiling, the PS4 will launch in Sony’s home country on February 22, 2014. Although not confirmed by Sony in black and white, this will likely have a knock-on effect, with a February launch in neighboring countries such as Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore and Taiwan.

It’s really bad news for the British expats currently residing in the likes of Hong Kong, as it now could mean extortionate import prices and a paradise for local sellers in the Sham Shui Po district. We see it all the time with iPhone launches in Hong Kong and now Sony’s decision to ship in 2014 is unlikely to go down well with Asian communities.

Those looking to play Killzone Shadow Fall, Battlefield 4 and Call of Duty Ghosts on PS4 in November will now have to pay through the roof for this luxury, or just accept the fact that a four month wait is on the cards.

Hopefully Sony will shed some light on this during the Tokyo Game Show this month, as there are bound to be a lot of disgruntled gamers who want some answers from Sony regarding this matter. Do you live in Asia? If so, let us know your thoughts on the prospect of paying high import prices to pick up the PS4 in November like everyone else.
