PS4 install base dictates GTA V, SingStar release

The amount of games available at launch for PlayStation 4 and and Xbox One have had mixed reactions from gamers, along with certain titles being demanded by fans with no release date in sight. The Xbox One and PS4 install base will dictate if/when certain games reach the new consoles, and we’ve heard directly from our readers in relation to a desire for Grand Theft Auto V and SingStar to release on PS4.

It’s not only SingStar and GTA V, most recently we have seen NASCAR 14 skipping next-generation. The Eutechnyx developer claims the PS4 and Xbox One install base isn’t big enough to “justify the cost of development”, and they’re not the only game developer thinking this way.

Rockstar’s comments on creating a GTA V port for PS4 or Xbox One were short and to the point as well. They revealed an interest in next-gen, but have “no plans” for a GTA V release on PS4 and Xbox One. The best hope would be a port at this stage, and excitement over store listings has been around for months. The fact is, these are just placeholders and that even includes the latest round of stores listing GTA V for PS4.

The demand for GTA V on PS4, Xbox One vs. PC was also looked at in an earlier article with mixed reactions about the platform deserving the title most. The comments revealed a lot of unhappy PC gamers.

We looked at the constant request for SingStar to release on PS4 last year and it’s evident that any development is being kept under wraps or is nonexistent. The PS4 SingStar questions come almost daily on the official Facebook channel and the answer is pretty consistent along the lines of, “there’s still no PS4 news, and when there’s news then you’ll know about it”.

The real concern for PS3 owners of SingStar seems to be their song collection and they want to be able to transfer the SingStar songs from PS3 to PS4, if the music game ever arrives, and we can relate to this after spending over £400 on SingStar songs with a desire to see the title launch in app or disc form.

Do you think the Xbox One and PS4 install base is enough to release GTA V and SingStar (on PS4) in 2014? If not, at what number of units do you think some developers will stand up and take notice?

It is worth noting that the PS4 has an install base of over 4 million units and the Xbox One over 3 million. This seems a lot, until you compare it to the combined 160M install base for Xbox 360 and PS3. One thing is for sure, everyone will take notice of PS4 and Xbox One sooner or later.
