PS4 global sales figures announced to date

We brought you the news yesterday that sales for Sony’s PS4 had reached approximately 250,000 within the first 48 hours of launch. Sony has now released the official figures on their blog, confirming that over 1 million consoles were sold in the US on the first day of release. Now that the PS4 has become available in Europe and Latin America sales have now soared, with over 2.1 million units being shipped so far.

Sony president and group CEO Andrew House just confirmed these figures and has described the next generation launch as “an impressive and record setting accomplishment”. There has been a well publicized shortage of consoles across the world and many gamers are eagerly waiting the second phase of consoles to release.

We do not expect the demand for the PS4 to subside any time soon so those who are able to get their hands on one would be lucky. Unfortunately for Sony there has been reports of issues with a small amount of consoles early on; as a result a small batch of contingency stock is on hand to rectify the situation.

What do you make of Sony’s impressive sales figures, will you be buying a PS4 once demand has been satisfied?
