We have a quick heads-up for those that are planning a PS4 marathon session on Monday 27 January. Sony has advised everyone that more PSN maintenance is planned for the PS3 and PS4. Fortunately though, the PSN will only be down for a maximum of 6 hours.
Before the PS4 launched, PSN outages were frequent and sometimes lasted over 10 hours on some occasions. We thought that Sony would be able to prevent the downtime from happening at the same pace, but we’re still seeing occasions where Sony has to bring the service offline.
PS4 owners may have been expecting maintenance to happen in the background on the new system, but unfortunately that won’t be the case here.
Sony has confirmed that on Monday 27 January, PSN will be down from 17:30 until 23:30 GMT. Fortunately though, you still should be able to go online and play games as long as you are signed in before the maintenance started.
It will differ this time slightly though, as Sony also mentions about ‘caching’ authentication details. Read the statement below for confirmation of this:
“Online gameplay should be available to users who have recently signed into their SEN account and have their authentication details cached. However this is subject to change. Users who do not have their details cached, will not be able to sign-in to their account or begin an online gaming session.”
So there we have it. Make sure you are prepared for the PSN to go down on Monday before planning any long gaming sessions with your friends.
Let us know your thoughts on this below and if you need help on authenticating your details.
