PS4 1.50 firmware update activates features on day one

With about a month until the launch of the PlayStation 4, Sony realizes that in order to offer owners the full range of features they will need to deliver a day one patch for the PS4. We can understand why some of you will be upset because downloading a 300MB file size will be too long to wait, as they will be eager to see what all the fuss is about.

However, you need to remember that Sony is bringing new features to its next-gen console all the time, which means they will need to start to ship units to suppliers long before they have managed to update these consoles.

The PS4 1.50 firmware update activates a host of new features on day one, and without them your console will lack a variety of functions. The PlayStation 4 system software update is not mandatory, which means you will be able to play a game offline. However, the moment you try to get online, then you will be forced to update.

Having said that, most of you with an Internet connection will want to install the update, as the PS4 will be half the machine it is meant to be. This is because the 1.50 firmware update will activate features like Remote Play for the PS Vita, the Share Button and so much more, all of which can be seen on the PlayStation Blog.

As you would expect there has been a huge response to this, with one of the main complaints being how this day one patch for the PS4 could cause server issues. We are not certain how many people will get a PlayStation 4 on the day of its release, but we can be certain the number will be big enough to cause a bottleneck effect on servers.
